Organization Overview:
MWRD Commissioner Eira Corral Sepúlveda has a diverse and talented staff who are dedicated to grassroots community engagement and policy development on matters relating to the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District, environmental justice, equity, climate change, environmental policy, water sewage and stormwater infrastructure, and diverse workforce development. The intern will have the opportunity to work on important projects and to make a real difference in the community. The position may include stakeholder engagement, event planning support, policy research, content development, project coordinator, and other skills and tasks to support the functions of a Commissioner’s Office. The intern will gain skills and experience in public policy and learn about the work of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District. The intern will learn how politics, policy making, and other government functions work.
Core duties and responsibilities will include: • Policy research and legislative bill tracking • Draft policy proposals • Coordinate, schedule and attend meetings with elected officials • Prepare and write in-depth reports and presentations • Assist with events and outreach efforts •Support the Commissioner in unofficial civic events and activities Remote Work: • All work to be performed remotely, unless otherwise indicated. • Participate in team meetings biweekly via Outlook Teams. • Weekly check-ins with project managers via Outlook Teams. On-site Work: • Attend MWRD Regular Public Meetings every first and third Thursday at 10:30 am-1:00 pm and other Public Special Meetings. • Attend stakeholder meetings and community/civic events minimum 1-2 times a month, assignments will be coordinated in consideration of the intern’s class schedule.
Intern can work at least 1 day in office, and other available days remotely
