Overview of Organization:
Congressman Jonathan L. Jackson represents Illinois' First Congressional District. Born to civil rights leaders Rev. Jesse Jackson and Jacqueline Jackson, the fight for underrepresented people runs in Congressman Jackson's blood. He has long been an advocate for marginalized communities using his platform to fight for equity and civil rights.

Congressman Jackson now brings his activism to Congress. He is committed to promoting policies that advance equality and justice, improving access to quality education and healthcare, and protecting the environment. He proudly serves on the House Committee on Agriculture and on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and is dedicated to working with his colleagues to pass meaningful legislation that will benefit the people of IL-01 and the nation as a whole.

Internship Summary:
The D.C. Intern will play a critical role in the office by assisting with legislative research, drafting memos and correspondence, coordinating Capitol and D.C.-based tours, and providing a welcoming environment to constituents. This program provides a unique opportunity for young professionals to gain valuable experience, expand their knowledge of public service, and make a difference in the lives of our constituents.

Responsibilities:
- Provide a welcoming environment and positive first impression of the office to constituents, visitors, and other stakeholders.
- Handle incoming calls with poise, professionalism, and promptness.
- Assist staff on special projects.
- Drafting Memos and special documents
- Help coordinate constituent tours of the Capitol, White House and other DC based tours (Smithsonian, Library of Congress, Supreme Court)
- Support the administrative staff to deliver and relay messages to Member and staff during Committee business and Floor proceedings.
- Assist with Legislative Correspondent and Staff Assistant with research and preparing official correspondence.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Effective teamwork skills and the ability to support the needs of multiple team members and leaders in the office required.
- Have an interest in public service.
- Willingness to learn new skills and tasks and be flexible in supporting Member and all staff in various roles, both administrative and legislative.
- Time management skills including the ability to prioritize, and track work status required.
- Exceptional organizational skill.

About the Supervisor:
Your supervisor will be the Staff Assistant, Kennedy Shelton.

Start and End Date:
The internship will run from June 10 to September 27, with the flexibility to accommodate specific scheduling needs.
