Overview of Organization:
The Youth Democracy IOP Internship will play a role in Chicago Votes' larger 2024 programming. Chicago Votes is building our field plan for what tactics we will use to increase youth voter turnout and participation in the 2024 primary and general election, as well as the 2024 IL Legislative Session.
Internship Summary:
The internship offers a hands-on opportunity to engage with the electoral process, focusing on initiatives aimed at enhancing youth participation in democracy.
Responsibilities:
- Weekly progress report meetings with our Get Out the Vote team.
- Coordination with external organizations to engage them in Chicago Votes’ work.
- Field work, including: phone banks, textbanks, and community conversations.
- Assisting the collection and analysis of data collected from field work.
- Traveling to Springfield at least once to gain insight into the IL Legislative process.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Interest in electoral politics and civic education.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact with external partners.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency using Google Suites.
- Experience with the American legal system is a plus.
- Diverse racial and socioeconomic perspectives are a plus.
- Some experience in research is a plus.
About the Supervisor:
Your supervisor will be Alexandria Boutros. Alex is a program director, and manages our year round programming, including our elections work. Alex went to DePaul University and currently work in the intersection of voting rights and prison abolition.

We have an office in the South Loop. Our team has a hybrid working model. Ideally interns would be in-office once a week, though this is flexible.
Start and End Date:
The Academic Year internships will take place according to the IOP’s timeline, with specific dates and weekly hours to be determined by the employer partner and intern during the interview process:
- Onboarding: November – December 2024
- Intern Work Period: January – May 2025
