Overview of Organization:
Project Unloaded works to prevent gun violence in all its forms by educating, engaging, and empowering teens through cultural campaigns and community partnerships that share a simple message: guns make us less safe. We sit at the intersection of public health, youth engagement, social marketing and culture. Through large-scale, data-backed social media campaigns, teen-facing local programs, and an inspiring youth council, we combine young people’s love of social media with a gun violence prevention message that can reduce gun use and save lives.
Internship Summary:
Project Unloaded is excited to hire a Public Health Research & Outreach intern to support our growing partnership portfolio and continue our work to educate and empower Gen Z around gun violence prevention. The person in this role will conduct and summarize research on the risks of firearm use, as well as conduct partnership outreach, engagement and research. Eligible applicants will be current college or graduate students and recent graduates.
Responsibilities:
- Research and summarize recent studies on firearm risks, and recommend updates to Project Unloaded’s online resources
- Research potential partnerships to expand Project Unloaded’s teen reach
- Conduct outreach and support tracking for potential partnerships
- Visit and support in-person, teen-facing community programming in Chicago
- On occasion, create videos for Project Unloaded’s social media accounts about the research and partnerships
- Collaborate with teens, partners and Project Unloaded team to ensure accurate program implementation
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience reading and synthesizing academic journals and studies
- Proactive communicator, willing to engage teens and partners on behalf of Project Unloaded
- Commitment to gun violence prevention
- Interest in research and culture change as a public health strategy
About the Supervisor:
Noah Lumbantobing is director of partnerships at Project Unloaded. In this role, Noah is responsible for managing our community partner program and expanding our national partnerships. Noah was previously communications director for March for Our Lives..
Location, Modality, and Commute:
Many of us are based in Chicago and meet in person regularly. In addition, we run summer programs for teens in Chicago. The person in this role would be expected to show up somewhat regularly at our summer program to help lead programming and support our partners.
Start and End Date:
Summer internships will take place during the period of June 10 - September 27, with specific dates to be determined by the employer partner and intern during the interview process.
