Overview of Organization: As one of the largest Democratic caucuses in the House of Representatives, the New Democrat Coalition is made up of nearly 100 forward-thinking Democrats who are committed to pro-economic growth, pro-innovation, and fiscally responsible policies. New Democrats are a solutions-oriented coalition seeking to bridge the gap between left and right by challenging outmoded partisan approaches to governing. New Democrats believe the challenges ahead are too great for Members of Congress to refuse to cooperate purely out of partisanship.

Internship Summary: Join the New Democrat Coalition as an intern to help our policy and communications team shape legislation and drive the message of the day. Interns will work on a variety of tasks, allowing them to engage in meaningful work such as assisting with messaging guidance for Member offices and analyzing legislative and executive actions

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze introduced and proposed legislation
  • Review actions taken by the Executive Branch
  • Attend stakeholder briefings and congressional hearings
  • Assist with New Dem-hosted events, including weekly Member lunches, policy task force meetings, staff and Member-level briefings, and more
  • Draft talking points and messaging guidance for Member offices

Qualifications:

  • Interest in politics and public service
  • Strong writing and organizational skills
  • Willingness to work with individuals and organizations across a broad ideological spectrum
  • Thrive in a team-oriented environment
  • Bias towards action

Location, Modality: This internship will take place in-person in Washington, D.C., in the New Democrat Coalition’s office in O’Neill House Office Building. The internship is full-time (40 hours/week) for eight weeks.

Start and End Date: Summer internships will take place during the period of June 10 - September 27 with specific dates to be determined by the employer partner and intern during the interview process.
