Overview of Organization:
More Perfect Union is an advocacy and journalism organization with a mission to build power for the working class. Launched in February 2021, More Perfect Union’s coverage has generated 935 million views on our content and has helped play a key role in educating the public about core economic justice, labor, and corporate accountability issues.
Internship Summary:
The Editorial Research & Writing Fellow will work closely with the Senior Director, Editorial, writers, and producers to support More Perfect Union’s editorial efforts. This role will focus on in-depth research, fact-checking, and content development to strengthen our journalism and storytelling. The fellow will monitor a wide array of news outlets, analyze key trends, and synthesize complex information into clear, compelling narratives. They will contribute to the editorial team by drafting research briefs, sourcing data and expert opinions, and assisting in script and article development. This fellowship is an excellent opportunity for aspiring journalists and researchers to gain hands-on experience in impact journalism for a nonprofit newsroom.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct in-depth research on economic, labor, and political issues to support editorial projects.
- Identify important, underreported stories and provide summaries with key statistics, expert perspectives, and historical context.
- Draft research briefs and fact-check scripts, articles, and social media content for accuracy.
- Assist in writing editorial content, including news articles, opinion pieces, and investigative reports.
- Monitor and analyze news trends, policy developments, and public sentiment.
- Source and verify data, reports, and academic studies to strengthen editorial narratives.
- Support the team in developing story ideas and angles based on ongoing research.
- Assist in writing headlines, captions, and summaries for social and web content.
- Operate in a nimble, fast-paced environment to meet tight deadlines.
- Other duties as assigned.

Location, Modality, and Commute:
We work fully remotely between 10 am and 6 pm ET, Monday to Friday. Our staff are located in New York, NY, Washington, DC, Austin, Texas, and the Bay Area. We offer a $500/month home office reimbursement to cover telework expenses such as laptop, internet, cell phone, rent, etc., for full-time fellows.
Since the IOP requires a hybrid modality, the IOP requires the selected student to be present in Washington, DC, for at least half of the duration of the internship, participating in IOP programming. The student has the flexibility to stay in Washington, DC, or relocate to other places after this requirement is fulfilled, preferably to cities with More Perfect Union staff presence.
Start and End Date:
Summer internships will take place between June 2 and September 26, 2025, with specific dates to be determined by the employer partner and intern during the interview process.
