Overview of Organization:
The Congressional Management Foundation (CMF) is the premier bipartisan organization that works to create an effective and responsive Congress to serve the American people. CMF advances this goal by working directly with Members of Congress and staff to enhance their operations and interactions with constituents.
Internship Summary:
CMF has a variety of projects that our summer interns can get involved in. One of the main ones will be the Democracy Awards, now in its eighth year, which recognizes non-legislative achievement in Congress. The work will involve assisting in data collection and interviews with congressional staff, event logistics and the use of Salesforce for tracking. We also ensure that our interns leave CMF with a tangible writing piece (be it a blog post, an article published on LinkedIn or a press release). We also include our interns in all staff meetings and encourage them to attend events and speeches.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct research for articles on congressional and advocacy engagement
- Create daily news briefings for the whole team
- Assist with event logistics for events with congressional staff
- Use Salesforce (training will be given) to track donations, congressional interactions and advocacy speeches
- Use Asana (training will be given) as a project management tool
- Collaborate with your supervisor (and other team members) to clarify priorities and assignments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Pursuing a degree with a focus on political science, government or public policy -Proficiency in Microsoft and Google Suite
- Strong writing skills
- Keen attention to detail
- Effective team player with a positive attitude
- Customer service experience is a plus.
About the Supervisor:
Your supervisor will be Sarah Thomson, Chief Operations Officer. Sarah has been with CMF for almost 11 years and is primarily in charge of the financial management and event planning for the organization. Originally from the UK, Sarah has previously lived and worked in Belgium, South Africa, Senegal and Ivory Coast. She has a BA (Hons) in Linguistics from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne.
Location, Modality and Commute:
Our team is in the office Monday-Thursday and we would like our intern to work in the office on those days (as their schedule permits). Our office is conveniently located opposite the historic Eastern Market (216 7th Street SE, Washington DC 20003), a two minute walk from the Eastern Market metro station.
Start and End Date:
Summer internships can commence any time in May and will run through end August, although we are very flexible on start and end dates.
