Overview of Organization:
Founded in 2010, New Heights Communications is a woman-owned, progressive, full-service strategy and communications firm with a track record of winning tough fights. We serve advocacy and legal organizations, political groups, and CEOs who are making a difference—helping them move from brainstorming to goal-setting to winning.
Internship Summary:
You’ll find us working for social justice in the biggest battles in Washington—and across the country. These days, that means fighting Trump Administration policies that hurt working people, including attacks on DEI and higher ed, supporting immigrant justice, public transit, and labor unions. Protecting our elections. And much more. We’re passionate, creative and fun. And we’re looking for someone—or even a couple people-- to round out our team.
New Heights takes our internship program seriously. Not only do our interns act as full members of the team—joining client and all our team meetings and performing substantive work—we prepare you for careers in advocacy, politics, or public affairs. Or even (especially) for a job at New Heights. (Fun fact: At one point, half of our full-time staff were former interns.) We expect a lot, but we give a lot, too. We provide lots of feedback and expect you to do the same. Interns leave us with a concrete set of skills and a full portfolio of writing projects—and press clips!
Responsibilities:
- Create press lists, pitch media and develop media coverage reports for our clients;
- Craft social media and digital assets for clients;
- Develop creative ideas to get our clients and ourselves in the news;
- Be part of a close-knit, energetic team where everyone has a hand in everything.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Working toward a degree in communications, political science or related field;
- Passionate about social justice causes – and good at explaining why;
- Excellent writers who can quickly grasp new content and adapt easily to changing tone, voice, format and end-goals in writing;
- Highly motivated, mature, responsible, and able to handle multiple projects in a short time frame.
