Overview of Organization: Civic Nation is currently seeking interns for its Data & Technology department. As a Data & Technology Summer Intern, you will work alongside data scientists, analysts, engineers, and web professionals, contributing to the technical needs of the organization. Internship Summary: Embark on an exciting journey as a Data & Technology Summer Intern at Civic Nation. As an intern, you will play a vital role in providing analytics and database support to Civic Nation initiatives and staff. This internship offers hands-on experience for individuals with a problem-solving mindset, attention to detail, and a passion for using qualitative and quantitative data to drive decision-making.
Responsibilities:
- Support day-to-day data needs, such as working with voter registration data, building lists for audience engagement, scraping and analyzing data, and surfacing information for others through data visualizations
- Contribute to the development, management, and execution of technical solutions for internal operations and external initiatives
- Engage with a team of professionals in data analysis, tools maintenance, and infrastructure services
- Potential projects include: qualitative coding and natural language processing to categorize thousands of opinions from our upcoming youth listening effort; scraping and collating early vote site data to support our 2026 election work; implementing new tools and processes to help partners navigate our flagship Party at the Polls program
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated knowledge of non-profits or civic engagement organizations
- Familiarity with Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets
- Knowledge of coding or programming languages is a plus (e.g., SQL, Python, R, JavaScript)
- Willingness to learn new programs, tools, and software as needed to support team goals
- Excellent writing and editing skills
- Strong oral communication, organizational, and time management skills with an eye for detail
- Strong teamwork, critical thinking, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Google Suite
About the Supervisor: Your supervisor will be Ruairí Ó Cearúil.
Location, Modality, and Commute: This internship is entirely remote with the option to use our office in Washington D.C., which is open Monday through Friday for anyone in the area.
Start and End Date: Summer internships will take place during the period of June 1 - September 25 with specific dates to be determined by the employer partner and intern during the interview process.

Our team works fully remotely. We do have an office in Washington D.C. open 5 days a week for any interns who find themselves in the city during the summer. While no one on the Data and Technology team lives near the office, about 25% of our organization works hybrid from our office and they host intern get-togethers throughout the summer.
