Overview of Organization:

The Atlantic Council’s nonpartisan Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center (AALAC) broadens understanding of regional transformations while demonstrating why Latin America and the Caribbean matter for the world. The center focuses on pressing political, economic, and social issues that will define the region’s trajectory, proposing constructive, results-oriented solutions to inform public sector, business, and multilateral action based on a shared vision for a more prosperous, inclusive, and sustainable future.

AALAC – home to the premier Caribbean Initiative – builds consensus for action in advancing innovative policy perspectives within select lines of programming: US policy in the Western Hemisphere; US-Colombia ties; Venezuela’s future; Central America’s economic prosperity; Mexico’s role in North America; China’s next steps in the Americas; Brazil’s trajectory; Caribbean development; regional economic development; commercial opportunities; and energy transitions. Jason Marczak serves as the center’s senior director.

Internship Summary:

Young Global Professionals joining the Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center will work with regional experts to broaden understanding of regional transformations and deliver constructive, results-oriented solutions to inform how the public and private sectors can advance prosperity in the Western Hemisphere. AALAC interns will support a wide range of our thematic and country-specific portfolios, gaining valuable experience in Latin American and Caribbean economic and political issues.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research to support the activities of the program/center as needed.
  • Help draft policy briefs, blog posts, memos, articles, and other publications.
  • Provide support for the logistical and operational functions of the program/center, particularly surrounding events and activities.
  • Support the program/center development as needed.
  • Produce readouts and summaries at meetings, roundtables, and strategy sessions for internal program archives.
  • Conduct media outreach to promote the program/center’s events, publications, and writings.
  • Support the program/center in creating and updating content on its website using WordPress.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Recent graduate, graduate student, or undergraduate senior in good standing, preferably majoring in International Relations or any relevant field.
  • GPA of 3.0 (out of 4.0) scale, or equivalent from a non-U.S. institution preferred.
  • Proven interest in the core mission of the Atlantic Council and the Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center.
  • Genuine interest in and existing knowledge of a range of core topics related to the program/centers’ themes and priorities.
  • Fluent in Spanish and/or Portuguese. Also possesses excellent writing and editing skills in English, and Spanish or Portuguese.
  • Experience with social media campaigns, website maintenance, and email marketing.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and others.
  • Available to work full-time (40 hours per week).
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the US.

About the Supervisor:

Your supervisors will be Valentina Sader and Isabel Chiriboga. Isabel Chiriboga is an assistant director at the Atlantic Council’s Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center, where she leads the center’s work on organized crime and illicit trade. In this role, she has spearheaded key initiatives, including the US-Colombia Advisory Group, the Colombia Justice Fair Play Initiative, COP16 in Cali, coverage of three Ecuadorian elections, and the US-Chile integration program. Chiriboga is also a frequent commentator and opinion contributor for Foreign Policy, CNN, Miami Herald, the National Interest, CTV News, and other major outlets. Prior to her time at the Atlantic Council, Chiriboga worked as a research assistant at the London School of Economics’ Department of International Relations conducting research on the impact of land inequality on Argentina’s democratization. Prior to that, she worked at the embassy of Ecuador in Washington, DC, where she supported the trade agreement negotiations process between Ecuador and the United States. Originally from Ecuador, Chiriboga has lived in the United States, Spain, and the United Kingdom. She has a bachelor’s degree in international economics and international affairs from Trinity University. Chiriboga also completed a yearlong study abroad program at the London School of Economics.

Location, Modality, and Commute:

Our team works in the office Monday through Thursday. Ideally, the intern would work in the office these days as well. Our office is located at 1400 L St. NW, Washington DC, 20001.

Start and End Date:

Summer internships will take place between June 2 and September 26, 2025, with specific dates to be determined by the employer partner and intern during the interview process.
