Overview of Organization: At ABC News, the Political Unit Internship offers an opportunity to collaborate with colleagues and supervisors, contributing to political story coverage and the maintenance of research files and databases.

Internship Summary: This internship offers hands-on experience with the ABC News Political Reporting Intern tasked to support political story coverage, help maintain research databases, and actively contribute to internal and external news content.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain calendars of events and research databases.
  • Craft stories for ABCNews.com and report on political stories for internal and external distribution.
  • Assist in booking guests for ABC programs.
  • Pitch story ideas and areas for coverage.
  • Identify compelling storylines for extended network coverage.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Candidates with a background in reporting and writing
  • Experience in pitching and conducting interviews for political pieces is a plus are
  • A self-starting attitude;commitment to accuracy, and a strong dedication to comprehensive news coverage are highly valued.

About The Supervisor: Rick Klein is the Political Director for ABC News based in Washington, D.C. He oversees the political unit and helps steer the network's coverage of major news events. Klein provides regular political commentary and analysis for all ABC News broadcasts and platforms including “World News Tonight,” “Good Morning America,” ABCNews.com, ABC News Radio, and NewsOne, the network’s affiliate news service. He co-hosts the “Powerhouse Politics” podcast along with ABC News Chief White House Correspondent Jonathan Karl.

Location, Modality: In person - 1717 DeSales St. NW, Washington, DC

Start and End Date: Summer internships will take place during the period of June 10-September 27 with specific dates to be determined by the employer partner and intern during the interview process.
