Presented by the International Policy Program. In recent months, movements against corruption, led by Gen-Z, have sparked political change across Southeast Asia. In Nepal, a movement that began on a Discord server ended in the toppling of the government only 48 hours later. Yet, protest organizers said they wanted "reform, not a revolution.” Online, much of Gen-Z has shown support for Sushila Karki, the new Prime Minister, but many are still skeptical that real change will emerge. What can we learn from the Gen-Z movement in Nepal? How are Gen-Z leaders leveraging social media to advocate for social change? And what are the limitations they face? What do the youth of Nepal hope for the future of their country? And how do they hope to shape it? Join us in an event with Thiral Lal Bhusal and Jeevan Sharma to discuss how Gen Z is shaping Nepal’s new government.
