Cardinal Blase Cupich

Join the IOP as we welcome Cardinal Blase Cupich for a conversation on the intersection of religion and politics, both in Chicago and around the world. As Archbishop of Chicago, Cardinal Cupich has echoed Pope Francis’s call for the Church to emphasize issues of poverty, justice, and peace. He will address not only historical trends in the Catholic Church’s approach to politics, but also his positions on a variety of current issues – all while considering the basic question of what it means for the Catholic Church to bring its moral leadership to the public square, where political and social issues are debated and decided.

Leading this discussion will be Washington Post columnist E.J. Dionne, whose coverage of the Vatican has drawn praise throughout the country. Beyond his writing for the Post, he is a government professor at Georgetown University and a senior fellow in Governance Studies at the Brookings Institution. Mr. Dionne was also a Fellow at the IOP for the Winter 2015 quarter.
