Susan Monarez on "Securing the Future of Global Health: Lessons From Leadership in Crisis & Innovation" THIS POP-UP SEMINAR IS OPEN TO CURRENT UCHICAGO STUDENTS ONLY Tuesday, November 18 12:30-1:45pm Join Dr. Susan Coller Monarez - the first Senate-confirmed Director of the CDC, founding leader of ARPA-H and former senior White House advisor on national security and science policy - for a timely conversation on the future of global health security. Dr. Monarez will share her experiences shaping U.S. biosecurity strategy, leading innovation across government and responding to global public-health emergencies. Starting with the aftermath of Amerithrax, to the Ebola outbreak in 2014 and this past year's H5N1, Dr. Monarez will explore how nations can anticipate biological threats, responsibly integrate advanced technologies and strengthen global cooperation in an era of accelerating complexity. With geopolitical tensions, rapid advances in biotechnology and AI, emerging disease risks, supply-chain vulnerabilities and rising health misinformation reshaping the global landscape, this seminar will provide insights into the challenges and opportunities that will define global health leadership in the decade ahead. The discussion will examine what it takes to protect societies, build resilient systems, and lead at the intersection of science, technology and public trust. This pop-up seminar is off the record and open to current UChicago students only. Seating in the IOP Living Room is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. If you have any questions about accessibility, please contact Ella Kumano-Maloney (ikmaloney@uchicago.edu).
