Please note that this summer pop-up event is open to current students only for in-person attendance. If you are not a student, feel free to tune in on our Youtube channel! Humbled by Trump and embroiled in intergenerational conflict, Democrats have failed to offer motivational candidates upon which to hang their shrinking tent. Does Zohran Mamdani, the 33-year-old democratic socialist and winner of the New York City Democratic mayoral primary, offer the blueprint for the national midterm elections and beyond? Or do liberal establishment Democrats – and the moderates who circle them – still hold most of the cards? Who are the Ezra Klein-pilled “abundance” Dems – are they up and comers or side-lined irritants? What can Dems learn from Mamdani’s win – and can his multiracial, intergenerational affordability messaging translate beyond New York? Featuring Patrick Gaspard, personal advisor to Zohran Mamdani and former President of the Center for American Progress, David Wasserman, senior editor and elections analyst at Cook Political Report and Jonathan Martin, senior political columnist at Politico. Moderated by Jennifer Steinhauer, senior director at the IOP. Please note that David Wasserman and Jennifer Steinhauer will be in person at the IOP. The other panelists will join via Zoom. This event will be accessible for students only in person. The conversation will also be livestreamed on the IOP's Youtube channel. Tuesday, July 8, 2025 6:00 pm CT Institute of Politics
