- Program Speaker Series
While partisan divides are bigger than ever in Washington, among voters, the political lines seem to be drawn more around the politics of distribution. Anger over illegal immigration, food prices, big pharma, big tech and the like all center around a common theme: that someone is winning and the rest of us are screwed. Donald Trump has formed an unusual rage coalition, even as his cabinet forms around some of its biggest targets. How do we better understand our true political divisions? Can both parties leverage them for the greater good? Featuring former US Representative Katie Porter (D-CA), outgoing US Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Xochitl Torres Small and Charles Fain Lehman, fellow at the Manhattan Institute. This event is the speaker series kick-off for the IOP’s “Divided We Stand” 2025 initiative – seeking to deeply explore – rather than solve – the differences dividing us. Moderated by IOP senior director Jennifer Steinhauer. If you have any questions about accessibility, please contact iopevents@uchicago.edu.
