IOP Pritzker Fellow Alex Wagner on "The Space Force Experiment: How Politics Shapes America’s Newest Military Branch" THIS SEMINAR IS OPEN TO CURRENT UCHICAGO STUDENTS ONLY Thursday, November 13 12:30-1:45pm In 2019, America created its first new military service in over 70 years: the Space Force. But this wasn't just about the military’s role in space—it was about politics, personalities, and power. How do you build a military branch from nothing? What should their uniforms look like? Does the Space Force really need a distinct uniform and song? How is its mission different from NASA’s? We'll examine the political maneuvering that created the Space Force and how it's deliberately trying to attract a new generation of tech-savvy recruits with different competencies than the other military branches. Pritzker Fellows seminars are off the record and open to current UChicago students only. Seating in the IOP Living Room is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. If you have any questions about accessibility, please contact Ella Kumano-Maloney (ikmaloney@uchicago.edu).
