Quantum technology focuses on subatomic particles, but its implications are global. Chicago is poised to lead the way in quantum innovation with the backing of state and local political leaders and significant public-private investments, including in the Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park (IQMP) currently under construction here on the South Side. However, quantum's rapid advancement is not without drawbacks to nearby communities, ecosystems, and other stakeholders. This trek will explore quantum's risks and opportunities with a panel discussion featuring leading quantum policy experts as well as community activists. Following the discussion, we will travel to M-Hub, an innovation center fueling quantum research and development, for a guided site visit and lunch with practitioners. Breakfast and lunch will be provided with return to campus by 1:30pm. RSVP here. Meet at IOP House at 10:15 AM on February 13. Food and transportation provided.
