Over the last year and a half, Chicago has seen a significant increase in the number of migrants coming to the city. As of February 14th, 2024, there are more than 12,000 migrants in 24 shelters across the city. Presented by Chicago Style and featuring Johannes Favi (Deputy Director for the Illinois Community for Displaced Immigrants and Civic Leadership Academy Fellow), this screening of his short film “Caged Dreams,” coupled with a Q&A session, will dive into the mental health impacts of immigration detention for the migrants and the city-wide implications of this crisis. What is the city doing to help the migrants within its borders? How can Chicago improve its ability to handle the migrant crisis? The film discusses trauma in U.S. immigration detention and incarceration. Viewer discretion advised. Join the discussion at the IOP. Lunch served. Friday, March 29, 2024 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. CST Institute of Politics
