Summer 2023 Stipends & Programming
The IOP’s Summer Stipend Program offers students the opportunity to apply for a stipend of up to $2,500 to support an unpaid or underfunded summer internship in a wide variety of politics and public service related fields. Additionally, UChicago students interning in Washington, D.C., during summer 2023 are welcome to partake in IOP summer programming.
How do I apply?
If you have any questions regarding the summer stipend process, please reach out to Mark Schauerte (mschauerte@uchicago.edu) or Laresa Lund (lklund@uchicago.edu).
Am I eligible?
The program is open to both undergraduate and non-Harris graduate students, and also covers students who are graduating in spring 2023. Harris students should apply through the Harris application (info here) as Harris works directly with the IOP to subsidize many of their grants.
Please note that the available funds from the IOP for a summer stipend are up to $2,500 per student. In addition, if a student already has funding from an internship employer or another organization, the IOP can fund a student's internship up to $2,500 provided that the total amount of funding received by the student from all sources does not exceed $5,000. Please also note that the university's 501(c)(3) tax status prohibits the IOP from funding students working directly on a candidate's campaign.
