Overview of Organization: Ever wanted to go viral? Ever watched a podcast and thought, "I could do that?" Well, you can. And we want to help. Project Journeyman is a joint initiative by progressive content creators and other partners to empower the next generation of leaders online. We know how to go viral, and we want to help you do it too.
Internship Summary: Project Journeyman seeks an intern to do two things this summer: help influencers make content, AND take what you learn to start posting your own content and building your own brand. This apprenticeship-style model will give you hands-on training and mentorship from some of the most viral communicators in politics. We seek an ambitious, creative candidate prepared for more freedom and more responsibility than you’ll find in almost any other internship.
The core of the internship will be a close relationship with your creator. For the duration of your internship you will be their right hand, their utility player, and their Padawan learner. The two of you will have latitude to define your partnership based on your value-add—from writing scripts to framing shots to doing useful research. When it comes to posting your own content, you'll have both creative freedom and extensive support--from your matched creator and from other components of the Journeyman program. The day-to-day will be dynamic. Sometimes you’ll join your mentor in a co-working space; sometimes you’ll shoot videos at protests and press conferences; sometimes you'll help set up events; you may have chances to travel to swing states.
Responsibilities:
- Assist content creators with pitching, researching, writing, filming, editing, and every other step of the production process.
- Launch their own account and make their own posts—skits, explainers, podcasts, it’s up to you—with feedback and mentorship.
- Meet experts—staffers, researchers, journalists, creators, and more—to learn about the theory and practice of public opinion and the modern media environment.
- Support other operations for the Journeyman program and our partners.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in domains including social media, creative writing, photography and videography, graphic design, acting, journalism, political campaigns, policy, computer science, and research.
- Fluency with Adobe Suite/Cap Cut is preferred but not required
Eligibility:
- Domestic students
