Speaker Series Events
The IOP hosts nearly 100 Speaker Series events per year, ranging from larger, on-the-record events at venues around campus to more intimate, off-the-record sessions at the IOP House. The Speaker Series also includes a number of student-led programs, such as Chicago Style, International Policy Program, and News & Views. Students plan these programs in their entirety.
Since launching in 2013, the IOP has welcomed more than 700 speakers from across the political spectrum, with the goal of expanding and elevating the public conversation – and inspiring others in the process.
Political discourse today is dominated by divisive rhetoric and a non-stop 24-hour news cycles that prizes conflict over conflict, and heat over light. But the Institute of Politics is modeling a new kind of political conversation, one based on insight, inquiry, and civility. The IOP Speaker Series goes beyond the headlines to illuminate the people, ideas, and forces shaping politics today.
Generous support for the IOP Speakers Series comes from the Zell Family Foundation.
