Leadership Development Programs
The IOP's Civic Engagement programs provide pathways for students to take an active role in shaping politics and policy in their communities. The Leadership development program is one of the core pillars of the Civic Engagement program.
The IOP provides four core leadership development programs for students to engage with public service leaders, develop leadership and conflict resolution skills, and learn about careers in public service. The programs include: the Leaders of Color Initiative, Shriver Program for Leadership in Public Service, TechTeam, and the Women in Public Service Program:
Leaders of Color | Leaders of Color is a student-organized professional leadership development and mentorship program for students of color. This initiative aims to address the current deficit of racial and ethnic diversity in the various advisory bodies and leadership training opportunities across UChicago, and particularly at the Institute of Politics.
Shriver Program for Leadership in Public Service | The Shriver Program is a yearlong fellowship program for undergraduate students to gain practical training in public service leadership. Fellows attend workshops in the fall, undergo training in the winter and spring, and are guaranteed paid internships related to the mission of the Shriver Program in the summer.
TechTeam | TechTeam provides digital support to Chicago area community organizations and state and local government offices. TechTeam leverages the skills of civic-minded UChicago students of all disciplines to create project teams that support Chicago area community organizations and state and local government offices by improving technical infrastructure, expanding online presence, refining digital tools, and leveraging data.
Women in Public Service Program | The goal of WPSP is to provide training, mentorship, and support to women interested in public service. The project consists of weekly meetings and committees working on monthly programming, a Winter Quarter Leadership Institute, and a spring quarter project.
