Called a "messenger to mankind," Nobel Peace Prize winner Elie Wiesel will visit the University of Chicago. He will be interviewed by David Axelrod, director of the UChicago Institute of Politics. Wiesel will discuss his lifelong dedication to addressing the moral responsibility of all people to fight hatred, racism and genocide. In his words, “When human lives are endangered, when human dignity is in jeopardy, national borders and sensitivities become irrelevant. Wherever men or women are persecuted because of their race, religion, or political views, that place must—at that moment—become the center of the universe.”

From managing George McGovern’s 1972 campaign for president to mounting historic presidential campaigns of his own in 1984 and 1988, former U.S. Senator Gary Hart has been at the center of some of the most transformational moments in American politics. And as a key member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, chair of the U.S. Department of Defense’s Threat Reduction Advisory Council and co chair of the U.S. Commission on National Security for the 21st Century, Hart has earned a reputation as one of the most knowledgeable and respected voices on national security issues today. Director David Axelrod sits down with Hart for the IOP Fellow's final seminar—a wide-ranging and insightful conversation about his life, his career and the state of global security today.
